ResiliEnhance Platform 2025 In-Person Meeting: Strengthening Collaboration and Advancing Resilience (Udine, October 27-28, 2025)

Building upon the outcomes of previous milestones — including the 2024 in-person meeting, the 2023 field visit, and earlier collaborative efforts — the ResiliEnhance Platform convened once again in Udine, Italy, for its 2025 in-person meeting, held from 27–28 October 2025.

The event was led by the UNESCO Chair on Intersectoral Safety for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience at the University of Udine and co-organized with the International Centre for Mechanical Sciences (CISM). It gathered researchers and experts from universities and institutions committed to advancing disaster resilience through knowledge integration and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Day 1: Integrating Knowledge for Resilience

The first day focused on advancing resilience by bridging disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation strategies.

Keynote interventions by Dr. Jair Torres (United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction – UNDRR, Bonn) and Dr. Carlos Uribe (UNESCO, Paris) provided valuable perspectives on governance, systemic risk, and the importance of translating knowledge into action.

A dedicated session was also held for the upcoming Special Issue of the International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, titled “ResiliEnhance Project: Leveraging Knowledge to Enhance Disaster Resilience for a Safer and Sustainable Future”. During this session, participants presented updates on their article contributions, sharing insights and feedback that reflect the Platform’s collaborative and transdisciplinary spirit.

Day 2: Collaborative Learning and the Participatory Lab

The second day of the meeting centered on creativity and co-production through a Participatory Lab titled “Teamwork for the Graphical Analysis and Representation of Narratives with the ResiliEnhance Lens”.

Participants explored how visual thinking, collective reflection, and interdisciplinary dialogue can strengthen the understanding of resilience. Through interactive teamwork, they translated experiences and narratives into shared visual representations aligned with the Comprehensive ResiliEnhance Framework (CREF).

Next Steps and Conclusion

Building on the discussions in Udine, the ResiliEnhance community is now preparing a comprehensive report summarizing the results of the 2024 and 2025 meetings, capturing lessons learned, methodologies, and insights across all sessions.

Contributors are also finalizing the Special Issue of the International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, which will showcase interdisciplinary approaches emerging from the ResiliEnhance Project.

The 2025 meeting once again demonstrated the strength of collaboration across institutions and disciplines — reinforcing ResiliEnhance Platform’s mission to leverage knowledge for a safer and more resilient future.
